Stygius - The infernal Star System

"You don't go to Stygius. You end up there. It's a system of seven graves staring at each other in the dark, and the red eye of the mad god overseeing it all."
Bas Falter, Cargo Ship Pilot

TRAPPIST-1 is not a normal system. Its sun is a dim, angry red ember, barely larger than Jupiter. It provides little light and even less warmth.

The seven planets, the "Seven Sisters," are all tidally-locked. One side of each planet faces the red star in a permanent, bloody dusk. The other side faces the endless night of the Verge, a darkness broken only by the other Sisters.

To be on any of these worlds is an exercise in madness. The "Sisters" don't rise or set. They hang in the sky, unmoving, impossibly large, like the eyes of dead gods. There is no day-night cycle, only the slow, eternal creep of weather along the terminator zone, the narrow band of twilight between the scorched "dayside" and the frozen "nightside."

Proxima Centauri is the pinnacle of civilization compared to TRAPPIST-1.
