Monolith launches the first successful expedition to Mars. Thanks to the lunar base, they are able to build the spacecraft in orbit around Earth.

2069: The first autonomous androids
KreuzTech rolls ut the first "Ask-1" androids. They are dumb, clunky, and loyal. But unlike fragile humans, Ask-1 Androids can work 20-hour shifts in high radiation. They become a game changer in the terraforming of Mars, assembling the initial orbital mirrors and PFC factories.

Monolith mining drones collects interesting data on the dwarf planet Sedna during a flyby. Gravity telemetry is confusing, Sedna seems to have a fluctuating gravity, between as low as almost zero and the density of Mars.

Era 2: The Tear & The Exodus (2101 – 2180)
The discovery of the Gloom and the desperate rush to the stars.

2142: The Sub-Quantum Manifold (SQM)
While experimenting with high-energy quantum mechanics, Monolith scientists accidentally punch a hole into a sub-quantum dimension. The Gloom is discovered.

Monolith builds the first FTL engine. It is crude but it works. Unfortunately all of the prototypes lose connection and disappear in the SQM.

Monolith scientists discover that "lower," instinct-driven consciousness can navigate the Gloom currents. A squid named Archimedes successfully pilots a return trip. The Navigators' Guild is born.

Suddenly, the Hegemony doesn't need to wait for comets. They build massive "Tanker-class" Shift Ships. These ships jump to the outer system, scoop megatons of ice/ammonia, and shift directly into low Mars orbit to dump their payload.
